This is Alexa, a young American Staffie of one year old who was entrusted to us due to a difficult living situation. She lived with several dogs but was not used to the everyday life that most dogs experience: walks on a leash, encounters with strangers, or regular outings. This made her fearful, and she doesn’t know much.
Today, Alexa is discovering all of this little by little at the shelter through gradual walks and gentle interactions with our team. The leash is still a source of concern for her, particularly the tension it can create around her neck with a collar: when this happens, she sometimes freezes and hesitates to move forward. Our caretakers carry her for a few meters when the situation becomes too stressful for her. However, progress is evident: Alexa is becoming more comfortable with the harness, which reassures her more than the collar, and her outings are gradually getting better. With patience and gentleness, she is learning to trust.
Alexa gets along well with other dogs. With people she doesn’t know, she can be wary at first. But once a bond of trust is established, she shows a completely different side of herself: a sweet, very kind, and particularly affectionate dog.
We recommend several meetings with her future adopters to establish a trusting relationship.
