On Saturday 29 August 2026, our Brussels animal shelter will open its doors from 10 am to 6 pm for a special day entirely dedicated to our four-legged companions, on the occasion of International Dog Day, celebrated a few days earlier on 26 August.
Activities, encounters, educational walks, photography, drawing, canine osteopathy, grooming sessions, guided tours… This year’s programme has plenty to offer. It is the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover Veeweyde, with or without your dog.
Discover the Veeweyde animal shelter
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to explore the shelter and discover our different areas: dogs, cats and small pets, as well as our meadows where our sheep and goats live.
Visitors are welcome to bring their dogs. However, for safety reasons and to protect the well-being of the animals in our care, dogs will not be allowed in certain areas inside the shelter.
Our teams will be available throughout the day to answer your questions about adoption, sponsorship, donations, volunteering and the work of our association.
Activities for you and your dog
Le Collier, with canine osteopath Joséphine de Lespinay, will be there to introduce visitors to canine osteopathy.
Buddy Doggy will organise three educational walks for visitors and their dogs around the shelter, along Rue des Papillons and beyond. Walks will leave at 11 am, 2 pm and 4 pm. Places are limited to five people per walk, so advance registration is strongly recommended via communication@veeweyde.be.
Photographer Laura Petermans Photography will set up in one of our meadows to take beautiful portraits of your dog.
Brussels-based illustrator Vincent Rif will also be joining us and will create sketches of you and your dog.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to see some of our dogs enjoying time in our outdoor exercise areas and observe how our animal carers and volunteers interact with them.
From 4 pm to 6 pm, our team will offer short grooming sessions in the shelter’s wellness area. Each session will last approximately 15 minutes and will be available for a €5 donation.
Guided tours of the shelter
Would you like to learn more about Veeweyde, how our shelter works and what everyday life in an animal shelter is really like?
Our volunteer guides will offer two guided tours, at 10 am and 1 pm. Each tour will last approximately one hour and will be available for a €5 donation.
Registration is required via communication@veeweyde.be.
A village full of exhibitors
A wide range of exhibitors and partners will be joining us throughout the day:
- Ralf – Dog’s Bandana, with accessories for dogs;
- Simone & Marcel, with handmade creations from Brussels;
- Canis Filé, with Diane, who specialises in spinning the undercoat of pets into soft, natural yarn;
- Animal Search APP ASBL, the app that centralises reports of lost and found dogs;

- Pâtisserie Succulente, with delicious 100% vegan creations.
Food, drinks and more
The Privé de dessert food truck will serve delicious savoury and sweet crêpes.
Our partner Purina will also be present and will offer dog treats to our visitors.
Our mojito bar and kiosk, with picnic tables and parasols, will be open throughout the day, giving you a place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
You can also browse our little bargain corner in the shelter shop.
Finally, our neighbour, the Luizenmolen, will also open its doors and make its car park available. A great opportunity to combine your visit to Veeweyde with the discovery of this beautiful piece of Brussels heritage.
