It’s that time of year again!
Every year, our sheep get shorn here at our Anderlecht shelter before the weather starts to warm up.
Why is shearing sheep important?
Shearing our sheep is essential for their health and comfort. Sheep have a thick wool coat, and without shearing, they can overheat during the hot summer months. As their wool grows, it also becomes heavy, and so shearing them lets them move around more comfortably. It also keeps their vision clear by removing overgrown wool from their eyes. Thick fleece can also harbour ticks, lice and other parasites – so shearing helps keep our sheep clean and healthy.

The sheep here at the shelter mostly come from police seizures, where they lived in poor conditions without proper care. Now, they live with us here at the shelter in several meadows where they have space to graze, relax, and enjoy a peaceful life.
Some of our sheep are up for adoption! You can see their profiles by clicking here.
