In December 2024, our teams were involved in a case of abuse. It was from there that we rescued Belle and Balto: two starving dogs, covered in parasites, whom we immediately took in through our Veeweyde Refuge du Marais and then transferred to the Brussels shelter.

But their rescue didn’t stop there.
Despite their alarming condition, their former owners contested the seizure, triggering a long, painful, and unjust process. For almost a year, Belle and Balto were held hostage by a system where the well-being of the animal is sometimes secondary to administrative considerations.
In November 2025, the Council of State finally brought an end to this deadlock: Belle and Balto could remain under our protection. And finally… they were able to be put up for adoption!
Today, both have found a family. Belle a few weeks ago, Balto this morning. Two stories of resilience. Two new beginnings!

Thank you to everyone who supported us and thank you to the adopters who opened their hearts.
